Solomon Studies - Type and Anti-Type of Christ and the Beast of Revelation 13

Preface

It is the intent of this series of studies to discuss the Bible history of King Solomon and share the writer’s conviction that Solomon fulfills two types of Bible typology – that of Christ the True Wisest Man who has ever lived and that of the Beast of Revelation 13.

It is the intent of the writer to discuss many threads that the Spirit of Christ, through the prophets (I Peter 1:10-11), have granted us to help us to understand the times and issues that Solomon faced and how he chose to respond to these issues.

The writer will discuss the history of Israel, the kings of Israel, the various events that influenced the decision making in Israel, and many of the major events that took place in Israel to set the cultural, political, and theological problems that set the stage for Solomon his experiences and his decision making. Solomon was heavily influenced by the environment he grew up in and that he was trained in. Solomon was blessed by growing up with his father David, a mighty man of God. Solomon had the opportunity to see many things, both bad and good, and all of these things played their role in the development of the character of Solomon, as both a person and as a king.

Solomon was clearly a significant person in the lineage of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Jesus was the fulfillment of all the promises given to Solomon. Jesus, the son of David, was the wisest man who ever lived. Jesus was the greatest king in Israel’s history. Jesus was the One who all of the world needed to come to to hear His wisdom. Jesus was the True Sanctuary of Israel. The great qualities of Solomon were displayed in their fullest in the life and teachings of the True Beloved of the Lord.

Sadly Solomon also displayed some of the most depraved spiritual behaviors which we have recorded in the Bible. Solomon allowed Baal worship, the worship of Milcom, Chemosh, Ashtoreth, and Molech to enter directly into the city of Jerusalem. In fact Solomon built temples to the gods of His 700 wives and placed them on the Mount of Olives. Prophets and Kings 57. Solomon allowed a mixed worship to enter into Jerusalem and set the pattern for the rebellions and idolatry of all of the following kings of Israel and Judah.

Solomon also set the stage for a major display of the ecumenical movement by allowing the heathen women (false churches symbolized by women), that he married, to turn his heart away from Jesus. In addition to this display of the ecumenical movement Solomon also chose to accept the worship service of Egypt by accepting the "linen" of Egypt. I Kings 10:28/Deuteronomy 17:16.

However, one of the most interesting statements made about Solomon, in his apostasy, is that he violated the commandment of Jesus (Deuteronomy 17:17) to not multiply gold. Solomon multiplied gold in such a manner that Jesus (I Peter 1:10-11) put a special number on the amount of gold that Solomon received. That number is 666. The only other place this number is used is Revelation 13:17-18.

It will be the purpose of this writer, and this book, to show the typological connections between Solomon and Jesus and between Solomon and the beast of Revelation 13. I pray that as you read these thoughts you pray over them, study them, and review them in your prayer life with Jesus.
